How to Meet the Runner’s Foot Care Needs: Treating Shin Splint Pain and Heel Pain
August 18, 2010 by Foot Health
When you feel that your feet are worn out, achy, and abused, the soreness can often become excruciating. Jogging, sports activities and the like can put extreme pressure on our feet, and cause problems with our foot ligaments and muscles. Painful sores, bunions, and shin pain can make even walking a painful undertaking. However, there are some choice options that can help soothe painful feet and heal them when done regularly. Below are three tips to make feet heal so you can get back to your life.
How to Overcome Blisters and Skin Challenges
Blisters are caused by the friction of tight shoes. Blisters can appear on any area of the feet, but the bony nub on the heel is the most common site. Given that the skin is our barrier to the outside, and responsible for shielding us from harmful organisms, a blister ideally should not intentionally be popped. Podiatrists recommend the use of moleskin as a great option for protecting a blister to keeping it from opening up. For a blister that has already popped, it is suggested to clean the region and apply an antiseptic ointment. Then, keep the site wrapped with a bandage.
Shin Pain Can Halt Training
Some athletes and runners can experience a more serious condition involving shin splints. This excruciating injury is caused by abuse of the lower leg by strenuous physical activities. The exact origin of the injury is under investigation, but they seem to affect a tendon located in the shin called the posterior peroneal tendon. Given that this injury also seems to occur in people who tend to overpronate their feet (this is the tendency of the foot to roll inward), special support devices in the shoes, known as sports orthotics are extremely helpful.
Treatment for shin splints may consist of icing the area, resting it until it is healed, and participating in activities that are low impact such as using an elliptical or swimming. To stop the injury from returning, wear sports orthotics whenever engaging in impact activities.
How to Treat Heel Pain
Plantar fasciitis is one of the many problems that can affect the heel. Plantar fasciitis happens when the plantar fascia is stretched excessively thus becoming full, tender, and difficult to put pressure on. The best way to treat these conditions early on is with sufficient support of the foot arches and cushion, which can be provided by using sports orthotics. Ice, massage, and physical therapy are also helpful.
When your feet and legs become painful, your body is sending you a vital warning: it needs help. Often times, the mere act of relaxing from stressful activities for a short period and using sports orthotics is enough. Nevertheless, when more severe problems develop such as shin splints, a medical professional should be consulted in order to properly diagnose the problem and provide appropriate treatment.
Heel spur pain is a major problem in many people today. Heel spurs, Achilles heel pain, and plantar fasciitis are some of the common foot health problems that affect many people today. Footminders foot care products are very effective for relieving many heel pain causes.

In imperial china for woman why was foot binding bad for health? Are there any quotes from the past before 1920? Im way to scared to research on my own!! PLEASE HELP!!
Best answer:
Answer by Hey.
I don’t know about any quotes but I do know that it was incredibly bad for your feet because it basically deformed them.
Think what braces do to your teeth to straighten them – well that’s the effect that foot binding had on women’s feet.
It caused walking problems, arthritis and incredible pain in later life.

Suffering Arthritis Of The Foot? – Essential Tips On Prevention
August 13, 2010 by Foot Health
Arthritis is basically the inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied by pain, an increase in fluid in the joint, and frequently changes in structure and function. It is often acutely painful and crippling, particularly when it manifests itself in the feet.. The small joints in the feet are especially vulnerable due to the daily stress and loads they must carry.
Here are 10 tips to prevent arthritis from occurring or to at least slow its progression.
1. Be sure to always purchase proper fitting footwear.
Note that shoes should always be both comfortable and supportive, with no binding, pinching, or rubbing. These could irritate your joints. In fact a golden rule of promoting excellent foot health and preventing conditions such as arthritis, is choosing appropriate footwear.
So many of todays foot problems are cased by ill fitting shoes it is essential that you choose wisely when purchasing footwear.
2. If you find your joints are stiff or inflamed, then do take necessary rest and stay off your feet until they feel significantly better.
Regular periods of rest are essential to your feet’s well being.
3. Lose some weight if you are carrying extra poundage.
Any extra weight adds both stress to weight-bearing joints and can also initiate the development of future foot problems. Think of this as being a longer term project i.e. that you don`t have to lose all the weight at once. Any excess weight you can lose will have a corresponding benefit for your long suffering feet!
4. Remember to prioritize the taking of exercise on a regular basis.
Focus on staying active and flexible. Walking, swimming and yoga are excellent activities and will assist in promoting superb foot health.
5. Focus on developing and maintaining a good posture.
This will ensure your body weight is evenly distributed over each foot.
6. Keep feet warm and dry.
Damp feet can attract fungal type conditions.Do take extra care if you are a keen sports participant as communal changing rooms are notorious for the spread of foot conditions.
7. Maintain a healthy diet – this will assist enormously in promoting long term foot health and a sense of general well being
8. Avoid a stressful lifestyle - stress can sometimes exacerbate an existing arthritic condition.
9. Avoid the following- smoking, and excesses of caffeine and alcohol, protein and fat.
10. Above all, maintain regular communication with your doctor and notify of any changes in the condition of your feet.
As can be seen, there is so much that can be done to stop foot pain arthritis occurring, or at least slow its progress. A good diet, appropriate footwear and regular foot maintenance are key factors to consider
Arthritis can be distressing and uncomfortable but there is a great deal that you can do to alleviate its effect on your feet. For more essential information, advice and resources on this and many other foot problems head over to:

Question by Katie K: How do I break into the mental health field?
I am a 22 year old college grad with a BS in psychology and a concentration in criminal justice. I really want to pursue a career in counseling, but I know I have to go to graduate school first. In the mean time, I’d like to get some experience in the mental health, or even just health care field. What are some reliable options for getting my foot in the door of the health care field?
Best answer:
Answer by Phantom C
Possibly, as a behavioral health technician or even as a parole officer who carries a case load dealing with the mentally ill? Try looking up BHT on monster jobs or some job search in your area and see what comes up. Good Luck!
