Question by : Does an electrical transformer box have any health risks?
My family recently bought a house with a large electrical transformer box around 2 – 4 feet from the part of the house closest to it.

My bedroom is the part of the house closest to the box, and my parents are worried that the transformer box may be harmful…that it contains serious health risks. Does it emit any harmful rays? Does it cause cancer or any illnesses? Does it contribute to various sicknesses? Etc. Thanks!

  1. Tex says:

The Box does have high voltage in it, either 220 or maybe 440 volts. If you were to take the cover off, which by the way if you do not know how would be a major undertaking, you could get electrocuted. As far as harmful rays no. They are used in every housing development and neighbor hood in the U.S.A. So far no harmful health risks, so long as you do not try to open it and mess around inside.
