I happened to find this product locally at a wholesale club where it is listed as a seasonal product. I came on Amazon to see if they carry it so I can replace mine if I should wear it out since I am using it two times a day.

I have seen a physical therapist for my Plantar Fasciitis before, but found I can mimic what they do in the clinic at home. It is a time saver to not have to go in. In physical therapy they have you use heat, massage (to break up scar tissue), stretch and ice. I am now using this product for the first two steps to replace the hot rice bag and hand held massager I had been using, and it works like a dream. If you are using this product for the same purpose, the little round balls smart pretty good when the Plantar Fasciitis is first acting up again, but if you keep at it the smarting will subside. So happy I found this product.

While this unit does indeed massage your feet and feels good, the design makes it somewhat difficult to get comfortable in doing so. You can’t just plop your feet directly on top because the weight of your legs puts a strain on the motor, so you have to rest your heels on the floor and then your massaging only one area. I found myself constantly picking up my feet and moving them around to get a comrotable position and effect.

Many know that the feel of someone’s massaging hands on certain areas and pressure points can create a stimulating effect (enough said). Well, I have to fess up and report that this has been a unexpected effect of this amazing massage machine by Homedics. The feel of the rotating balls on my big feet are the next best thing to someone with a trained, strong massage touch. It mimics the feel of strong counter rotating thumbs.

OK, it’s no substitute for the feel of a good woman’s touch on a man’s feet…but it’s close:)

ONE CRITICISM – I agree the motor definitely should be stronger. You can hear the motor straining and slowing down a bit. That means you have to concentrate too much on the weight being applied to it more than relaxing and enjoying the massage. The unit should be strong enough to handle the leg/foot weight of average sized and slightly above average-sized people. Not just a 100-pound, 5-foot person with a size 5 foot. This was a popular issue with the 1st generation of this massager a few years ago, yet Homedics chose not to address it. Hopefully the 3rd generation of this product will have a stronger motor.

After a long day at work nothing sounds better than a good foot massage. The Homedics FM-S Therapist Select Shiatsu Foot Massager with Heat can help but it won’t satisfy you entirely. It only runs at one speed but the heat option is the great. It uses infra-red light technology to heat the the pads. It will not get really hot, just adds a nice warmth. What I really dislike about the unit is how you can not just lay the entire weight of your feet on it. You have to hold you foot slightly putting the weight on either the front, back or side of your foot depending on what part of your foot is on the pad. The weight will cause the motor to strain and it will make a horrible slow grinding sound. So you really are not relax since you are thinking of how you are going to hold your foot in place. I give it two stars because it does feel good as the metal ball bearings and heat massage your feet but that feeling does not last long after using it a while since you have to put so much effort into using it.

I purchased this product for mainly two reasons:

    – to make good use of my Amazon Prime membership

    – to massage my aching feet after putting in 12-hour days at work and on the road.

After reading some of the comments on here and comparing with other comments for other foot massagers, I felt that this one would be at least a bit better than the others. I think I was right.

But no product is perfect and without flaws. This is a good foot massager and I definitely like the heat (that was another factor that I searched for in massagers). After putting in 2 hour drives to and from work, my feet tend to constantly cramp up. So having a heated massager would be a top priority.

But where it lacks is in flexibility/options. For example, this massager has only one setting for a massage: on or off. It also has only one setting for heat: on or off. I wish it would have come with more than just that, such as settings for how fast or slow I want it to go as well as how hot (or cold) it should be. The tiny spheres that swivel on the massager are also a bit hard (they are metallic) – so I would like to see a setting for that (to make it hard or soft). I know some people have said that the motor should be stronger – but I’m just 140 lbs and 6′2″ so as a skinny person this doesn’t really apply to me.

Also, I have found it helpful to rest either my toes or heel just above or below the massaging elements rather than put the full weight of my feet and legs and have a painful massage. This certainly makes it easier, more enjoyable, and makes me sleepier than I thought possible.

I think that this massager is really good as a basic foot massager. But the next massager I’m going for is going to have lots of options and settings. Still, some of a massager is better than nothing at all.
