it is a fungus infection. any locker room, bathroom, that several people share is a prime place to get it.

well you can get athletes foot from wearing the same socks and never takin them off for a long time so..
Google!
Athletes Foot. Scientifically called Tinea Pedis, is a fungus (Tinea) that lives in warm dark moist areas of the body. Other moist dark & warm areas can also be infected, the groin (Tinea Cruris) or Jock Itch and the head (Tinea Capitus).
With athletes foot the spores of the fungus live in the shoe. People often use creams to treat the feet & then get surprised that the fungus goes, but a month later returns, this is because they reinfect themselves from their own shoes.
In order to treat athletes foot you need creams to treat the foot, wear clean socks every day & never wear the same pair of shoes in a week (7 pairs of shoes). This allows the shoes to dry out. If you do not use a separate towel for your feet you could spread the fungus to your groin and your head. Try to keep your feet as dry as possible.
